Recommended Reads For New Mums

Whether you're expecting your first baby or you've welcomed your little one into the world, here are my top picks to help guide you through your journey into motherhood.

1. Beautiful Chaos

Motherhood is messy and beautiful, and hard and humbling. We adore our children, and sometimes we miss ourselves. Beautiful Chaos is a collection of raw, honest poems about motherhood - capturing everything from pregnancy to school age. Urlichs reminds us that the everyday ordinary of motherhood can actually be extraordinary.

If you're looking for a comforting warm hug of a read then this is the book for you!

 2. My Child And Other Mistakes

In this very funny book Taylor writes candidly about her own personal experience exploring the decision to have a baby when she doesn't even like them (!!), the importance of cheese during pregnancy, why she took hair straighteners to the labour ward, plus the apocalyptic newborn days, childcare, work and the inevitable impact on life!

Great for when you want something relatable and light hearted.

3.  Mind Over Mother

Do you overthink what you said to the mum in the supermarket queue? Is your internal dialogue more critical than kind? Perhaps you wake to check your baby is breathing, or the sight of a rash sends you down an internet search rabbit hole. Whatever your level of anxiety, however much it impacts your life, this book is for you. Written by a psychotherapist (and now influencer), this is a deep dive into anxiety with explanations and practical tips.

One for the mums who struggle with anxious thoughts and need a helping hand.

4. New Mum Feelings

This books shares advice and support on issues that new mothers face, from A for Anger, to I for Insomnia, providing an empowering pep talk for those days when new mothers need it most. This comprehensive A-Z covers everything from baby blues and anxiety to guilt, insomnia, stress, your inner critic and maintaining friendships.

A fab book to turn to in those early days.

5. Why Did No One Tell Me?

A really important read about the PHYSICAL aspects of being a mother. This book covers topics that we still don’t feel comfortable talking about, encouraging you to take control and care of your changing body. Every woman has the right to be informed and this empowering guide gives you all the tools you need to look after your amazing body throughout motherhood.
